TheChurchofNigeria(Anglican Communion) has frowned at the call by Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for the impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan over a construction company’s renovation of a church in Otuoke,BayelsaState, his home town.
In a press conference at the weekend, the Anglican Bishop ofEnugu, Most Rev Emmanuel Chukwuma condemned the call, describing it as satanic and barbaric.
Bishop Chukwuma who said that he had the permission of the Primate of the Church, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, to speak, noted that the call was capable of causing distraction for the President.
ACN had claimed that the renovation of the Anglican Church by Ghitto Construction Company amounted to bribing President Jonathan.
But Bishop Chukwuma drew the attention of the party to the fact that the church did not belong to Jonathan, or his family.
“We want to make it quite clear that the church in Otuoke does not belong to President Jonathan; he said, adding that the company had been working in Bayelsa even before Jonathan became President.
The Bishop who is also the South East Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said that the company was only appreciating the community where it operates and had felt like putting in order the home church of the President.
