The Chairman of the Imo State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Sam Ohiri, whose immediate constituency, Mbaitoli, incurred the wrath of Gov Rochas Okorocha over resurgence of crime in the local government, has admitted that the governor’s anger was justified.
In an exclusive interview with Christian Voice recently, Eze Ohiri, the Obi of Orodo expressed sadness at stories of violent crime emanating from Mbaitoli in recent times.
Speaking in impeccable Igbo language, the royal father appealed to the criminals to have a re-think.
He disclosed that all traditional rulers in Mbaitoli, where he was chairman before climbing to the state council, have met and decided to contribute N10,000 each per month, totally N300,000, to help fund security in the area.
According to him, the governor called a meeting with the traditional rulers in Mbaitoli because of the regard he has for the royal fathers.
He recalled that Gov. Okorocha had in the past withheld the stipends for traditional rulers in Orlu when crime became rampant in the area, just to ginger them into action.
The royal father observed that Mbaitoli is large in both landmass and population and the police in the area had only one functional vehicle.
He called on government to provide extra vehicles and other logistics for effective crime control in the area.
He also advised Ndieze to expose the bad eggs in their communities as a proactive way to fight crime, while he admonished police not to divulge privileged information to the criminals.
Gov. Okorocha had frowned at the spate of kidnappings and other high profile crimes in the area where a policeman was killed recently during an attack on the police station at Nworieubi by hoodlums.
