Owelle explains passion for free education

Free education has formally and officially taken off in Imo and in a moving speech at the Hero’s Square recently, the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha explained his passion for free education.

He acknowledged that having tasted poverty at his childhood,  he made a vow to God that “if He blesses me, I will bless others; if He honours me, I will honour others; if He gives me, I will share with others and if He gives me authority, I will give free education”.

The governor assured that his administration would provide the necessary facilities to ensure that students and pupils took their studies seriously adding that students have no reason not to excel as he warned that any of them caught in criminal activities or who failed his examination would lose the scholarship.

Rochas pleaded with lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions not to go on strike any more having entered into an understanding with them to off-set their bills and to provide conducive learning environment.

The governor took time to explain the modalities for the scholarship in tertiary institutions. He explained that the forms for the application known as T001 will be made available to all the traditional rulers in the state who will issue them to students from their communities for completion afer which the forms would be endorsed by the traditional ruler, president-general, women leaders, liaison officer and youth leader of each country to confirm they are bona fide citizens of Imo State.

Each student is expected to return the forms to government  by end of May with an accompanying affidavit to confirm that such a person is a student of the claimed institution.
