Pastor banished for killing ‘sacred’ snake

A pastor in Amachi village, Akaeze in Ivo local government ofEbonyiStatemust be ruing his killing of a green snake recently, an action that attracted the wrath of some elements who regarded the snake as sacred.

About 30 youths from the community were said to have swooped on the pastor’s properties setting ablaze his church, all church properties, the pastor’s residence as well as his poultry farm and personal belongings.

That apart, the pastor is said to have been chased out of the community since the incident happened on March 18, 2012.

But the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeola Adeniji, depreciated the action describing it as barbaric.

“Instead of being applauded, he had his church and property destroyed”, CP Adeniji lamented.

He promptly matched his words of bringing the perpetrators to book with action by dispatching a team of policemen from Abakiliki to Akaeze where the suspects were said to have been arrested and have been cooling their heels in police cell.

Meanwhile, CP Adeniji has warned men and officers under his command to eschew the vices that have stained the image of the police as he would investigate every complaint from the public against any of them.

He reiterated that road blocks had been banned while the collection of money in any form for granting bail will not be condoned.
