St Philip’s Ikembra rounds off Patron’s Day celebration with awards

Activities marking the Patron Saint’s Day celebration of Saint Philip’s (Ang) Church, Ikembara in Ikeduru local government area ofImoState, kicked off last Thursday with a novelty football match between their women and those of St. Michael’s Catholic Parish, Ikembara to promote the spirit of ecumenism in the community.

Other activities within the week which would be rounded off today with a thanksgiving service  at the church include health talk last Friday by a medical expert, crusade and Praise worship yesterday, Saturday, May 12, 2012.

And at the finale today, the climax of the celebration is the award of honour to 10 distinguished members of the church, friends of the church including some grand children of the community as well as fund-raising for the building  of the church’s ultra-modern parsonage.

The chairman of the organizing committee for this year’s celebration, Sir Gideon Ohanyere told Christian Voice that the event is an annual re-union for members of the church living at home and abroad aimed at sensitizing them on the activities of the Church within the year with a view to planning for the coming year.

He further stated that the church, like her Patron Saint – Philip, has been propagating the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the grassroot since its elevation to Parish status some years back when they were still in Owerri Diocese.
