Road users inImoStatehave been advised to be patient with the present administration’s massive road construction as it promises safer traffic in the state.
The Sector commander Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Imo State Command, Mr. Ayodele Kumapayi, made the appeal when he spoke to Christian Voice recently in Owerri.
He commended the Governor of the State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, for the attention he had given to roads in the state as well as the good relationship existing between the corps and the government.
The FRSC boss described the Governor as road safety friendly, noting that the motoring public in the state are law-abiding.
He, however, warned those who abandon their broken down vehicles on the road to promptly remove them to avoid obstraction.
Mr Kumapayi described the dumping of disused vehicles on the major streets in the Owerri metropolis as one of the major challenges of the command, and promised that the corps was tacking the problem squarely, through enlightenment campaigns.
According to him, the broken down vehicles that litter the streets are being removed by members of the corps during the Road block exercise.
He said that Wetheral,Douglasand Royce roads have been restricted to long vehicles.
The sector commander condemned the act whereby some drivers cover their vehicle number plates with light bleus materials, thus making them less visible.
He expressed the resolve of the corps to begin to impound such vehicles as they depict the vehicles owners as men of the underworld.
The corps, he said, needs high capacity tow trucks and ambulance, adding that traffic control unit has been created by the corps to ensure free movement of vehicles.
