St Mark’s Amakohia opens new Chapel, school

In its efforts at enhancing evangelism, the St Mark’s Anglican Church, Amakohia Archdeaconry of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri has established a new chapel at Works Layout as well as a new secondary school of international standard.

The Vicar/Administrator of St Mark’s (Ang) Church Amakohia Owerri, Rev Canon Chukwuma C. Oparah, disclosed this to Christian Voice recently in his office.

The new chapel is St. Mark’s Anglican Chapel, Works Layout, Owerri while the new school isMarySumnerInternationalSecondary School, Amakohia.

Rev Oparah, PhD, said that the church should be closer to the people of God so that they can be active in participating in discipleship and things of God.

He said that church expansion tallies with God’s mandate in Mathew 28:19 which states, “Go into the world and make disciples of all nations…’

Canon Oparah stated that the vision of making every major street and layout to have the presence of the Anglican Church is a welcome development and should be sustained.

“Five minutes walk from our homes should take us to our church”, he said.

The cleric further stated that our churches should wake up to their responsibilities of reaching out to the people, saying, “If hotels are everywhere around the city, the church should equally be seen everywhere.”

He commended the Bishop, Rt Rev Cyril C. Okorocha, PhD and Mama Owerre for their support and direction in church planting, especially in the establishment of St Mark’s Anglican Chapel, Works Layout, Owerri as well as the mission schools particularly theMarySumnerInternationalSecondary School, Amakohia, Owerri which takes off soon.

Dr Oparah also added that a week-long crusade has commenced in the Archdeaconry with the theme: Kingdom Expansion: Go! Make disciple of all nations, and the opening service will be today, May 27, 2012.

On the new school, he said that it will take off by September, 2012 at St Mark’s Compound Amakohia. According to him, admission forms are available for sale for theModelSecondary Schoolat St Mark’s Church, Amakohia.
