Imo VGN wants appointment of Acting State boss confirmed

Members of the Actualisation Committee of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Imo State have called on the national body to ratify the position of the commander in Imo State to enable the organization move forward.

The Chairman of the committee, Comrade Uzoma Eke, made the call in Owerri shortly after a security awareness seminar.

He disclosed that several letters had been written  to that effect to the headquarters of VGN.

According to him, Apostle Nwabueze Uzoma has been on acting capacity and the period of six months given to him has elapsed.

He denied that there is factionalisation in the group, saying that the position had been vacant since the death of the former commander, Mr. Peters Onwuzurike, last year.

Eke reasoned that from the organisgram, the Deputy Commander Administration ought to take over as there is no room for a deputy commandant in the constitution.

Also speaking, a member of the committee, Dr Evans Osagimo, said that the problem affected their  just-concluded retreat as over 2,000 members did not take part.

He called for the placement of the right person in the position, adding VGN is an anti-crime organization and injustice is “a crime”.

In his speech at the occasion, the Acting Commander VGN Imo State, Apostle Kingsley Uzoma, said that the seminar was to retrain the members of VGN on security matters to enable them perform more effectively in fighting crime in the communities. He said that his men have been helpful in catching and handing over criminals to the police and therefore advised his men to adhere strictly to the laws, regulations and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The traditional ruler of Ebikoro Autonomous Uzoagba community,  HRH Eze Marcel Egemonu, expressed  confidence that the members of VGN Imo State will perform effectively and stressed the need for them to work in partnership with other security agencies in the state to achieve the desired goal.

Also, the traditional ruler of Akpulu autonomous community in Ideato North, promised that the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers would channel the problems of VGN to the State Government so that necessary security gadgets will be provided for them for their job to be easier.
