Two important ceremonies were last Sunday performed by the Anglican Bishop of Okigwe North, Rt. Rev. Godson U. Ukanwa, PhD, JP at St. Andrew’s Church, Anara in Isiala Mbano local government of Imo State.
They included the deaconate and priestly ordination of four as well as the inauguration of the 11-member new executive of the Council of Knights of St. Christopher with Sir Johnson Asinugo as President for the next three years.
In his charge, Bishop Ukanwa stressed the importance of the ordained priests and deacons to be diligent in their service more so, as their calling happened at a time the devil seems to have over-ran the world through scientific beliefs hence he challenged them to “let the world know that God is God”.
To the new executive members of the Council of Knights, the bishop admonished them to exhibit good leadership, promote peace and love among Christians, sustain evangelism and ensure speedy completion of on-going infrastructural work in the diocese.
In his sermon earlier at the service, the Anglican Bishop of Jebba, Rt. Rev. Sampson Sunday Adewole, pointed out that God does not joke with any calling He has bestowed on people hence everyone must account for his/her calling at the end.
The preacher who preached on; “Fruitful Christian life and fruitless Christian life”, identified the four “s” he referred to as the bane of today’s church including; inability to render sacrifice and suffering to the church and the absence of submission and service to God’s vine yard by members of the church.
Bishop Adewole reminded the newly-ordained that they were not called to enjoy bread and butter but to face challenges in their ministries assuring them, however, that if they keep to the faith that God’s protection, healing and deliverance were assured.
The service was conducted by the Vicar of Ogbo, Rev. Can. Solomon Akudinobi with the Vicar of Christ Cathedral, Ezihe, Ven Barr. C.I. Elelia, assisting the Bishop in celebrating the Holy Eucharist.
The Old Testament reading was done by Rev. Paul Nweboh, Rev. Godson Dururead the Epistle and Rev Nnabugo Metu handled the Gospel reading.
The four ordained priests area, Reverends, Nnabugo Metu, Godson Dume, Festus Ike and Darlington Chinakazi.
The six ordained deacons include Ordinands, ChigozieAsamole, Chigozie Obi, Simon Agbim, Paul Ike, Tobenna Dikeogu and Goodwin Ihemeje.
A striking feature of the occasion was the spontaneous assigning of portfolios to the ordained priests and deacons by the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Ukanwa.
Among the personalities present were the Bishop Emeritus of Okigwe, Rt. Rev. Algred I.S. Nwaizuzu who prayed for the ordained ministers as well as the President, Owerri Diocesan Council of Knights, Sir Israel Ekezie and others.
