Massive operations carried out by the police command in Imo State have paid off as more than 65 suspected kidnappers and 50 armed robbery suspects have been arrested, some now facing trial.

Disclosing this recently, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Celestine Okoye, said that more than 100 arms and ammunition were recovered in their various operations.

According to him, the command recorded a huge success in the fight against the hoodlums when they stormed thekidnappers’ hideout at Amakohia Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area, killing one in the ensuing gun duel.

He said that the command rescued a woman and her daughter being held captive near a hotel in New Owerri where the kidnappers left their victims and fled on sighting the police.

The assistant police commissioner also said that two suspected kidnappers who hail from Nekede in Owerri West and Abatete in Idemili LGA of Anambra State were arrested at a hotel in Ihiagwa.

Again, 20 people who have been on police wanted list were picked up in a raid at their hideouts at Ngor-Okpala and Owerri while a vigilante group helped the police to  storm the hide out of a five-man gang that robbed the NNPC Mega Station at Ihiagwa.

He solicited the cooperation of the people of the state in their fight against criminals and said that so far the commend has recorded measurable success under the commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Dega.
