Senator bemoans high rate of insecurity

The high rate of insecurity and non release of appropriate budgetary  allocations by the federal government have been identified as challenges hampering the infrastructural developments and employment of youths in Imo State.

Senator Chris Anyanwa stated this at Ezinihitte and Owerri municipal local government area of Imo State recently.

The Senator who represents Imo East was on a familiarization and  thank you tour of  the local governments to mark her one year in office in her second tenure.

The Senator disclosed that even though she is a legislator  that has no budgetary allocation attached to her portfolio, she has been able to attract capital projects for the people of the area.

On employment, she advised the youths to always read newspapers and listen to radio to ascertain what are available in accordance with their qualification before approaching her for assistance.

In his response, the traditional ruler of Owerri, Eze Emmanuel Njemanze, advised her to liaise with other south east senators and ensure the creation of another state in the zone. He, however, frowned at removing of Ohaji/Egbema from Imo in the process.

In answer to a question at Okpofe hall in Ezinihitte, the Senator stated that the upper house is handling the issue of non-availibility of funds with assurance of positive result and called for patience.

Senator Anyanwu listed some of her achievements to include empowerment of 850 persons financially, training of 307 persons on advanced certificate in ICT programmes which cost her the sum of N350,000 per person, and the building of a Diagnostic Centre at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.

She then promised to set up a world class civic centre with adequate facilities and a skills- acquisition centre in each of the nine local government areas of Owerri Senatorial zone beginning with six of them, out of which Owerri Municipal council would  be one of the beneficiaries.

The President general of Owerri Community Assembly, Chief (Dr) Christian Oweaya Anukam assured her of land at Ugwu-Ekwema for the project, advising her to always go through OCA in order that the generality of Owerri community will benefit from her projects and programmes for the people.

In Ezi-na-Ihitte, the Senator disclosed that she has attracted a contract of N6.76b  for the construction of a federal high way linking them with Isiala-Ngwa through Ogbe to Enugu/Port Harcourt express way across Imo River at Umunwanwa.

Some of the dignitaries that spoke  for the two local governments in appreciaiton of the Senator’s efforts were Sir Justice Duke Njiribeako, Hon Bob Njemanze, Chief Osuji, Hon Victor Mere, Hon Oliver Enwerenem, Hon Ekennaya and some past local government chairmen of the councils.
