Two varsities, college of education for Okigwe

Imo State Government has concluded arrangements to establish Imo State College of Education and the Turkish University in Okigwe Senatorial zone.

The State Governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha, who disclosed this when members of Odinma Okigwe socio-cultural organization paid him a courtesy visit in Government House urged the people of Okigwe to provide land to enable the state government commence the projects.

The Governor also disclosed that the state government has elevated the cooperative college at Ehime Mbano to a campus of Imo Polytechnic for award of OND and HND certificates.

Governor Okorocha said that the present administration is willing to transform Okigwe into a mega city through infrastructural development in order to attract investors in the area.

He further stressed the need for Imo citizens to embrace governance and shun politics.  He said that his administration   places the interest of the Imo citizen  uppermost. The governor urged the Odinma Okigwe to support the policies and projects of this administration.

The Governor described the members of the organization as true leaders of the zone and stressed the need for them to spend most of their time in supervising some of the government projects going on in their area.

Earlier in his speech, the president-general of the organization, Chief E.J.K. Onyewuchi, pledged their support and loyality to the state government.

Meanwhile, not deterred over Governor Anayo Rochas Okorocha’s recent revelation of introducing two varsities in the state, the member representing Ehime-Mbano, Ihitte-Uboma and Obowo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly in Abuja, Hon. Prof. Chudi Uwazuruike has unfolded his plans of floating Century International University in Okigwe South to shore off the institutional shortfalls in the sub-zone. The erudite scholar and honourable member made this known at his first and 2-day constituency briefing that held at Otoko the Council headquarters of Obowo L.G.A.  He disclosed that his overall plan is to make Okigwe the hub of education in Imo state, not minding the shortfalls of it in the South East region of the country. Also preparatory to this take off, he further highlighted on the MTN pet project of renovating Mercy High School in Ehime Mbano and Madonna Science School in Ihitte-Uboma as pilot grounds. On the same development, he unveiled his recent scorecard within the period of one year in the green chambers, adding that he had earlier used his position to offer job to his 29 constituents in the Federal Civil service commission. Continuing, he said he had attracted projects worth a total sum 7.2billion, which according to him include massive solar street lights projects in various communities, multiple water boreholes in all the LGAs, upgrading of classroom blocks and construction of ICT centers with equipments. Also, he said others include the provision of 500KVA transformers, building of satellite market, health centers, skills acquisition training and gully erosion control. In his candid expression he expressed that operating from the centre of authority is a herculean task but assured that with all the necessary assistance he is getting that his developmental plans would graduate to consolidate years ahead.  Hon. Prof. Uwazuruike who also is a member of the constitution amendment committee expressed dissatisfaction over the high rate of insecurity, which according to him is underscoring the economic growth and wholesome survival of the country.
