Gunmen kill 2, burn buildings in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command said on Wednesday in Damaturu that two persons were killed by unknown gunmen on Tuesday in Goniri Village, near Damaturu.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Toyin Gbadegeshin, told the News Agency of Nigeria that “the deceased persons, Modu Bura,30, and Ahmadu Ali, 39, were killed at their homes in Goniri Village.

“A block of buildings at the Marori Primary School, a Lower Sharia Court and a collapsed police out-station all in Goniri were also burnt by the suspected assailants,” he said.

Meanwhile, fresh gunshots were heard along Gashua and Gujbaroads roads in Damaturu on Wednesday.

Gbadegeshin, who also confirmed hearing the gunshots said “gunshots were reported along Gashua road and Gujba roads but our men are on trail of the gunmen.”

He debunked rumours of explosions in the state capital, saying “there was no explosion anywhere in Damaturu today except gunshots and we are in control of the situation as we are trailing the gunmen who are on the run.”
