The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) wants to be involved in the fight against crime to improve the security situation in the country, especially South Eastern States.
This call was made in Onitsha recently by a MASSOB chieftain, Mr Chukwuneke Agoha while handing over to the Okpoko Police Station, Onitsha, a suspected armed robber MASSOB personnel arrested on Onitsha-Owerri road.
Mr Agoha noted that the “security challenges appear to have overwhelmed the security agencies” and appealed to the authorities especially the Anambra State government “to allow MASSOB members a free hand to operate and flush out the criminals in the overall interest of the people”.
He lamented that the frequent clampdown on the members of MASSOBby the army and police on the false assumption that they are hoodlums, has dampened their zeal to assist in flushing out criminals, especially armed robbers from the society.
Narrating how MASSOB operatives nabbed the suspected armed robber, Chibuzor, a member of a five-man gang, said to be responsible for the frequent highway robbery on Onitsha-Owerri road, the MASSOB chieftain disclosed that MASSOB members nabbed the suspect while on patrol in Onitsha.
According to him, his men on motorcycle ran into a barricade mounted by the gang on the road about midnight inflicting injuries on the MASSOB patrol men.
However, the MASSOB members managed to call for reinforcement which arrived immediately at the scene and engaged the gang in a fierce exchange during which one of the gang members was arrested as the other four members were said to have taken to their heels.
