An Anglican priest in the Diocese on the Lake (names withheld) has been defrocked.
The priest was removed as priest in charge of an Anglican Church in the Diocese.
The defrocking of the priest for alleged “gross misconduct and canonical disobedience”, was announced during a special church service at the Cathedral Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Oguta where a document entitled “the constitution and regulations of the Diocese on the Lake 2011” was formally made public.
Speaking at the unveiling service, the Bishop, Diocese on the Lake, the Rt. Rev. C.B.N Oti, said the one hundred and two page document would henceforth be the main instrument with which the Diocese would be run.
According to him, the document shall be cited as the Constitution and Regulations of the Diocese On the Lake, 2011, and deemed to have come into effect on Thursday, September 22, 2011, when the Church of Nigeria Committee of Reference approved it.
In their remarks, while unveiling the document as special guests, Dame Elsie Tagbo RBK Okafor and Prince Eugene Dibiagwu affirmed the important roles constitution and regulations play in the life of any organization.
They commended the Bishop and all other persons who made the publication a reality and urged all to abide by it.
Speaking on the theme, “Praying Aright”, the Cathedral Dean, Venerable Dr. Sunday Iherue enjoined Christians to get involved in what he called earnest prayers at the right time in order to elicit God’s responses as he did to Solomon in the Bible.
Reviewing the trends of events in the country, Venerable Iherue urged the ruling class to ask God to give them the type of wisdom He gave to the biblical Solomon who never asked for the death of his enemies or for wealth but for wisdom to enable him lead the people aright when he was asked to make a request by God.
