Imo govt pays N30m compensation for demolished houses

The Governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has released about N30 million to the fourth batch of landlords whose illegal buildings were demolished at the Green Belt area of the owerri capital city.

Governor Okorocha who showed this magnanimity at the Government House, Owerri, through the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Hon. Uche Nwosu, assured the landlords that compensatory plots will be given to them by September to build their houses.

Hon. Nwosu, stated further that demolition exercise was not done in bad faith, rather, to maintain the original master plan of Owerri for the city to avert problems of flood, erosion and blockages in future.

The Commissioner pointed out that the amount given to them was not the value of their property, but assistance to secure alternative accommodation until the compensatory plots are given to them for the construction of their permanent houses.

In a vote of thanks given by Mrs. Ajoku, thanked Governor Rochas Okorocha for his being magnanimous in settling them, and expressed happiness for his monumental achievements so far in office, and prayed God to always give him the vision to govern the state aright.
