All is now set for the first season of the 19th Synod of the Owerri Anglican Diocese which kicks off Thursday, October 4 and ends Saturday, Oct 7, 2012, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Obazu-Mbieri.
This year’s Synod theme is; “The Gospel of Our Salvation: What is it and How is it?”
Speaking to Christian voice at the weekend, the chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Engr Sir Baldwin Onozie, advised the Anglican faithful not to miss the event which he said promises to enrich participants spiritually.
He said that the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Obazu-Mbieri, venue of the Synod, has been made ready for the historic event.
According to him, the Imo State Government had promised to respond to the request which his committee made for remedial work to be done on the access road to the venue.
Engr Onozie discribed the Synod as a forum for the Anglican Communion to showcase their achievements and plot the way forward.
“Any Archdeaconry that hosts the synod can be considered to be privileged”, he said, adding that delegates to the synod would be treated to the usual hospitality of the Mbieri people.
He said that all hands have been on deck in raising funds for the hosting, disclosing that every member of the LOC contributed immensely, apart from the contributions from the Parishes in the Archdeaconry and the general fund raising.
Sir Onozie said that as the LOC chairman, he constituted a one-man fund-raising committee, reaching out by text messages and other means to more than 28 of his friends and acquaintances who responded favourably by contributing to the funds and paying into a dedicated bank account opened for the synod.
He said that money was also disbursed to various sub-committees to handle specific duties.
According to him, the overwhelming support from the people reflected in the fact that more people opted to be involved in the LOC and actually contributed to the fund.
Our reporter who visited the church said the people of Mbieri in the Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State are already in festive mood in anticipation of the great number of people coming for the synod.
The Holy Trinity Church (HTC), Obazu now wears a new look while finishing touches are being given to the structures in the premises in preparation to receive the delegates.
Security has also been beefed up to ensure safety of the participants.
Some prominent Obazu people who spoke to Christian Voice commended the Bishop of Owerri, Rt Rev Cyril Okorocha, PhD for his efforts in moving the diocese forward. They expressed happiness that the Archdeaconry was hosting the synod for the second time in ten years.
