Guards ‘sell’ doctors to kidnappers

Two security men under the employment of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Orlu have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of two medical doctors working with the hospital.

The security men (names withheld) all working at the Anara, Isiala Mbano Annex of the hospital, were alleged to have been colluding with a 12-man gang of kidnappers.

According to the police, the two suspects were apprehended when they were about to carry out a plan to kidnap one of the medical doctors (names withheld), at the IMSUTH’s Anara annex.

The suspects had allegedly invited their confederates in crime to come to Imo State to pick two victims.

Information, however, reached the police who quickly swung into action and laid in wait for the suspects at the hospital where they were arrested.

Also arrested were Chima and Chukwukere (other names withheld) who were said to have come from Port Harcourt.

Policemen from the Intelligence Unit of the force have as well arrested another suspect said to be the gang’s negotiator.  Others are at large.

The Police Public Relations Officer,(PPRO) in Imo , Mr. Vitalis Onugu, said that the suspects confessed to the kidnapping of an Owerri-based medical practitioner who works with the IMSUTH’s Ogbaku Annex on July 16, this year.

The suspects, according to the police, will soon appear in court.
