The Catholic Arch. Bishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace Anthony Obinna has testified on Gov. Okorocha’s developmental projects in the state.
Bishop Obinna who expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the governor and members of his cabinet have carried on within a space of 14 months, disclosed that complaints have died down, pointing out that people are satisfied with the speed of infrastructural development, and other programmes of his administration.
He noted that new structures, roads and institutions that have been put in place within and outside Owerri metropolis and urged Gov. Okorocha to expedite action on new road projects and other areas of
concern as soon as the rainy season is over.
According to the Bishop, his visit to Government House was to inform His Excellency of the ongoing centenary Owerri Catholic Diocesan celebration which will have the presence of Cardinal Philando
Philonia. He will be representing the Holy Father, Pope Benedith the 16th.
He explained that the centenary celebration will involve Bishops from Europe, America and Clergies within the nation for fervent prayers and evangelism in various locations in the state.
To this end, he urged Catholics and all Christians in the state to work in the light of God and imbibe the spirit of boldness, noting that Christ is the light of the world.
He however granted the state government its request to make Maria Assumpta Cathedral, the State monument, noting its historical landmark which he said is significant in Nigeria and in the world.
Earlier, the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha thanked the Catholic Bishop for advocating for the poor and the downtrodden in the society and assured that the church would be given a place in the
government to enable them perform their role of peace keeping in the state and society.
Meanwhile, women in the state have been advised to live in unity and at peace with one another.

Gov. Okorocha highlighted on the role of women in nation building noted that government cannot function well without the help of women, especially in alternative peace resolution.
Okorocha however commended women in the state for their support towards the achievement his administration has recorded within one year, and assured his loyalty and transparency, adding that Rescue Mission administration is out to serve the people of Imo state better.
Earlier, the SA to the Governor on Women Mobilization, Mrs. Getrude Oduka commended the giant strides of Gov. Okorocha, whom she described as a great leader of repute, also assuring him of their support and loyalty to his administration.
