Child trafficker nabbed By Njideka Nwachukwu

A 48-year-old man and his son are now helping the police in a case of child trafficking and stealing at Okigwe, Imo State.

Police sources said that the man (names withheld) and his 24-year-old son allegedly conspired to steal the child which they sold to a childless couple also resident in Okigwe.

Sources also said that the suspect claimed that the woman and her husband had consulted them for held in obtaining a child for the woman who was said to be a second wife of her 68-year-old husband.

When the man’s search was fruitless as the pregnant single girls he contacted expressed unwillingness to part with their babies, according to reports, his son who had been let into the deal, appeared with a baby boy which they gave to the couple at the price of N150,000.

Sources also said that the husband of the ‘barren’ woman, who was said to be 40 years old, had four male children from his first wife who lives in their home town at Isuikwuato Abia State.

Police, however, swooped on the couple on a tip off after the baby boy had been with them for 14 days.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer Imo State command, Mr Vitalis Onugu, said that investigations were going in the case.

Meanwhile, the baby is yet to be identified as his biological parents are not yet known.
