The armed robbers operating from a hideout close to the Orji mechanic village and said to have made life unbearable for inhabitants of the SPIBAT area of Akwakuma have been killed by an irate mob who apprehended them while carrying out their bloody business.

According to police spokesman Vitalis Onugu the command’s anti robbery team received a distress call from the besieged residents and swung into action. But before they could get to the scene of the robbery, the angry residents had already arrested the suspects and gave them the beating of their lives. Police said they rescued them at the point of death and that the robbers couldn’t make it to the hospital as they gave up the ghost before doctors could help them.

However one of them was able to reveal the location of their hide-out before giving up the ghost and following the tip-off  Police raided the hide out-an uncompleted building in a bush behind Orji mechanic village where two members of the gang were also arrested, the PRO told newsmen.

Items recovered from them included loaded locally made pistols, dangerous weapons, laptops, handsets, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, white candles with the inscription “white confusion”, sim cards and ATM cards.

Police said the suspects were undergoing interrogation and would be charged to court as soon investigations are concluded.
