The Imo State Government through Imo Foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an Italian NGO, solidatetta Onlus and the federal Medical Centre (FMC) to offer free cancer screening for Imo women in all the 27 L.G.As.
The Director-General of Imo Foundation, Barr Mrs Njoku, who gave the information during an interactive section with journalists also revealed that the Italian group has arrived the state for the commencement of the programme.
Barr Njoku also announced that a Medical Mission will commence in the state from 8th to 21st December 2012 during which surgeons from the United States are expected to handle surgical operations at the Imo State teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Orlu.
She further revealed that another NGO, ORA USA, in partnership with Imo foundation, will carry out a free medical programme at Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta L.G.A for the flood victims and will also be at Njaba and Ideato South from 26th November to 21st December, 2012.
According to her, the foundation which is charged with coordinating the humanitarian activities of the State Government in partnership with other international and local NGOs, has organised free medical programmes during which more than 15,000 patients were treated.
Also, free medical treatment was conducted in more than 20 L.G.As where complicated surgeries were carried out.
The DG further revealed that the foundation has sought for partnership with the hospitals abroad to assist those seeking medical treatment outside the country. It also cleared the bills of an Imo Son with kidney failure who was treated in India; among others.
