IMSU students donate N3.5m to chapel fund

The 2000-capacity Church building of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Imo State University, (IMSU), is nearing completion and the Chaplain, Rev. Chinemerem Uche, has hailed the student members of the congregation for their total commitment to the completion of the project.

Speaking exclusively to Christian Voice last Tuesday, Rev. Uche disclosed that the students have contributed over N3.5million towards the project in the last one year.

He said each student member had contributed N6000 to a dedicated account.

The priest said that even former members of the congregation were still committed to the Chaplaincy citing the case of a student who completed his youth service four years ago but now living abroad  who sent N400,000 for the church building.

The Chaplain debunked the widely-held notion that student congregations in tertiary institutions are not usually viable as most of the students are poor.

In what could be seen as the secret of his ministry in the ivory tower, Rev. Uche posited that if the right strategies are applied, students can be mobilized to make financial sacrifices.
