Planning Committee for JCK Convention inaugurated By Emma Onumah

The Owerri Council of Knights has begun early preparation for the hosting of the first national convention of Knights and Ladies coming up in Owerri between march 27 and 29, 2014 by setting up a 40-man planning committee for the event expected to attract over 3000 delegates.

Inaugurating the committee which has Sir Levi Oguike as chairman at the Owerri council of Knights’ secretariat recently, the president of the Council, Sir Israel Ekezie said the committee was appointed so early to give it ample time to plan for the successful hosting of the convention.

The president listed the four terms of reference guiding the committee as follows,

a)        to identify and recommend the individual financial involvement of knights and ladies in the diocese towards the hosting.

b)        To draw up an acceptance resource programme of events of the convention,

c)         To identify and recommend resource persons and speakers at the convention and

d)        To identify venues for the various events of the convention.

It is also the duty of the committee to contact and liaise with corporate bodies, civil authorities and individuals and to ascertain their financial help towards the hosting, among others.

In his acceptance speech, the committee chairman, Sir Oguike, promised on behalf of the members of the committee to do a good job with God’s help, the fact that the bulk of the members are very busy people notwithstanding.

Sir Gab Oduah and Sir Tim Azubuike were appointed vice chairman I and II respectively while Sir Tace Onyeaforo and Sir Godson Nwaigwe are secretary and assistant secretary respectively.

Members will be appointed into 12 subcommittees of Finance, Works, Accommodation, Transport, Publicity and Media services and security.

The rest of the subcommittees are protocol, worship and spirituality, entertainment, medical unit, mobilization and liaison.
