Slain policemen’s relations get benefits By Njideka Nwachukwu

Relations of policemen who died and those injured in the line of duty in Imo, Abia, Anambra and Enugu states have received cheques of various amounts.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG) for Zone 9 and Commissioner for Imo State, Mr. Adisa Bolanta, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries in Owerri recently.

This followed a decision by the Inspector-General of Police (IG) Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to reduce for the beneficiaries the risk of traveling to Abuja to collect the cheques.

According to the AIG, the cheques are now to be paid at the zones.

He advised the beneficiaries to use the money wisely by investing it properly and not to allow con men to fleece them of the money.

Receiving her cheque, the wife of one of the police officers, Kingsley Nwagwu who was killed on 2nd November 2, 2011, by rampaging kidnappers at a junction in Ikenegbu layout Owerri, known as Maris Junction, thanked the IG for the N.5million given to her.

Also, a policeman, Mr. Abatango Eugene who was injured in an accident, received N105,000.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, he thanked the police authorities and urged the IG to keep up his good works.
