Plans have reached an advanced stage to reconcile the Catholic Church in Nigeria and the Christian Association of Nigeria,CAN.
The Catholic Church in Nigeria pulled out as a member of the Association few months ago due to some irreconcilable differences between it and CAN.
The Director of Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Rev Fr Tom Asen, who disclosed this on Sunday, in Abuja as part of the ceremony marking this year’s World Communication Day, said that discussions were underway to ensure that the Catholic Church in Nigeria return to CAN.
The cleric noted that disagreement and reconciliation were part of human existence, because it existed in every organisation, including families.
He said: “We are hoping that very soon, the Catholic Church in Nigeria will return as a full member of the Christian Association of Nigeria,CAN. This is based on the on-going discussions at various levels over the issue. Nigerians should realise that disagreement and reconciliation are part and parcel of human existence, because even family members at times quarrel and reconcile”.
In a speech made at the event, a representative of the Director General, Nigerian Broadcasting Commission,NBC, Mrs Francisca Aiyetan, advised media practitioners in the country to always stick to the ethics of journalism in order to avoid sanctions from the commission.
