Don’t derail democracy -Bishop tells politicians

The Bishop of the Diocese of Oru, the Rt Rev. Geoffrey Chukwunenye, PhD has warned politicians not to derail the democratic process of the country.

Rt. Rev. Chukwunenye who issued the warning during a Eucharist of  Confirmation at St Mark’s Church, Ichi Akatta in Ihite, Akatta Parish, Oru East LGA expressed regret that politicians in Nigeria do not seem to learn from past mistakes.

Bishop Chukwunenye insisted that Nigeria does not belong to politicians alone pointing out that they should not do anything to undermine the desire of a majority of Nigerians to forge ahead in one and indivisible country.

He noted that Nigeria project is by far greater than the selfishness of any individual, no matter how highly placed.

The Prelate wondered why Nigeria should literarily be on flames during election period due to the ambition of a few individuals and cautioned politicians to place the interest of the generality of Nigerians above every other consideration.

Taking his text from First John 5:2-3, Dr Chukwunenye stressed the need for Nigerians to demonstrate their love for the country through respect for constituted authority.

He congratulated the newly confirmed and urged them to take their Christian faith very seriously by taking part in all church activities.

The PCC of St Mark’s church, Ichi Akatta, prayed God to continue to strengthen the Bishop and his wife Joy (Mama Oru) and to grant them the grace of good health to sustain their ministry in the Diocese.

Some of the newly confirmed who spoke on interview expressed gratitude to God for granting them special favour of being admitted as communicants.
