Knights of St. Christopher, Ikeduru Diocese rounded off their first Business Meeting of the year last weekend with a call by their president, Sir Gideon Ezeji for them to be proactive in their service to God and mankind.
Sir Ezeji also enjoined them to always donate generously in support of God’s work, remember the poor, the less privileged and above all lead by example.
The event, which was a moment of stock-taking and critical appraisal of programmes and activities of the council within the period under review, saw almost all the Knights and Ladies of the council in attendance.
The meeting which kicked off with an Eucharistic service and admonition presided over by the Council’s Chaplain, Ven. Josiah Emeribe, deliberated on a wide range of issues affecting the running of the order.
In his address, Sir Ezeji harped on the need for members to take their call and service to the council very seriously. He said that a knight or lady who regularly absents himself or herself from activities and programmes of the council is not a true soldier of Christ.
One of the issues that topped the agenda was the Secretariat Complex under construction. Members were asked to make good their pledges and promises so that the project which is now at the decking stage would be completed soonest.
Support and encouragement to the needy, especially Christian brothers and groups in the Northern Nigeria who are being persecuted by the faceless Boko Haram were also stressed. According to the president, this is in line with the directive from the Joint Council of Knights (JCK) in the Owerri Province.
The mutual love and fraternal brotherhood that now exist between Ikeduru and Owerri Councils was well appreciated and Knights and Ladies were enjoined to maintain the relationship.
Reports on the various outreaches to the needy, especially small church stations, were taken and members were urged to redeem pledges and promises made to such churches.
The highpoint of the meeting was the inauguration of the relevant committee which has the vice president, Sir George Iwuchukwu as chairman and Barr. Sir H.N.G Amadi as secretary. The committee is to see that relevant codes of conduct and ethics as regard the calling and service of members are maintained.
Before the meeting rose, the president paid glowing tribute to the Knight Superior, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Chigozie Maduwike JP, and his wife (Nnedinma Ikeduru) for their support to the council and the able way they have been piloting the affairs of the Diocese.
He prayed for the wisdom of God and grace to enable them fulfil their respective ministries.
