AIFCE honours Bishop Okorafor, others By Victor-Clark Alisigwe

The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Egbu, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Enyinnaya Okorafor, has been honoured as an ICON of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE) Owerri, Imo State.

The award ceremony took place recently as part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee of the institution.

Speaking at the occasion, Bishop Okorafor described the award as his take-off point and promised to maintain his cordial relationship with the college.

The prelate encouraged the students to be patient in their educational pursuit.

Speaking at the occasion, the Provost of the College, Dr (Mrs) Blessing Chima Ijioma, expressed satisfaction with the growth of the college to a Federal College of Education from what she called its humble beginning in 1963 as Advanced Teachers Training College (ATTC).

Dr Ijioma said that some monuments had been named after the Icons honoured to enable the present generation emulate the awardees.

The Provost maintained that the award presentation was in appreciation of their works in upliftment and  flourishing of knowledge in the college.

Others who got the ICONS award included Prof. Bennett Onyeisara Ukeje represented by his son, Prof. Ikechukwu Cletus Ukeje, Prof. Emeritus Nicholas A. Nwagwu, Prof. Ernest Nneji Emenyonu, Dr. Daniel Nneji Onwukwe, Prof(Lady) Victoria Ulunma Nwigwe, the Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Anthony John Valentine Obinna.

Elder Azu Irondi and Dr (Mrs) Regina Emengini Nwokedi, were honoured as AIFCE Legends, while Prof. Ndu Dikeocha, Prof. Cyril Chigozie Asiabaka,(Vice Chancellor FUTO), a former Commissioner for Education in Imo State, Hon.(Prof) Lady Victoria Adaobi Obasi, Hon. Chief Dr. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, FNISM, and Mrs Uzoma Ihedirimadu-Abudu were conferred with AIFCE distinguished Alumni.
