Enugu healing river not ‘real’ -Royal father

Healing powers of a mysterious river which appeared in Nachi community, Udi, Enugu State recently has not been verified.

The traditional ruler of the community, who spoke to newsmen on the mysterious discovery said he was hearing for the first time that the river healed people of their afflictions.

He, however, said that the river appears every 20 to 30 years and dries up after few weeks. According to him, it wasn’t anything new.

Soon after a Fulani herdsman reportedly spotted the river, the scene had become almost a pilgrimage centre as commercial motorcyclists make brisk business transporting people to the scene.

Hundreds pay as much as N500 to N1,000 to the spot to fetch the water which was said to possess healing powers.

Another elder of the community told newsmen, “We noticed that after some years, the water will form a stream there and would disappear in a few weeks”.

He said that if it happens, the community usually see it as a source of water, although evil people and women in their menstrual periods are not allowed near the river.

“We never heard about healing power of the river until this recent appearance, I don’t know whether it is true”, he said.

The community leader said the river appeared last in 1992 as a small stream and disappeared, adding, “it has never been as large as this”.

The Fulani herdsman who discovered the river this time reportedly spoke of having heard strange noise as he was grazing his cattle and as he turned around, he saw the river.

Meanwhile, the river had been tagged Orimiri Jordan (River Jordan) since it was first seen on November 11.
