For the umpteenth time, the Imo State leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had debunked the allegations of serious intra-party crisis rocking the party.
Speaking to Christian Voice Newspaper recently on the alleged crisis, the state interim chairman of the party, Hon. Prince Marshal Okaforanyanwu said that the issue was a case of selfish interest versus public interest. Hon. Okaforanyanwu maintained that there is neither crisis nor crack in the rank and file of the Imo APC, blaming the present situation on the antics of some misguided members who are fanning the embers of confusion.
On the allegations by a frontline politician in the party that there is a serious crack of irreconcilable magnitude within the party, the APC boss said the party cannot join issues with the front-line politician. He said that APC is one big family that comprises people of proven integrity who are determined to make Nigeria better than what it is today. He described the said politician as a highly respected elderly statesman who has rendered quality services to Nigeria but regretted that the legal luminary is still threatening fire and brimstone in a matter which would have been resolved in-house.
He showed this reporter a harmonization chat from the interim national executive of the party comprising the names of all stakeholders, including state chairmen and secretaries of all the emerging political parties, former and serving senators of Federal Republic of Nigeria, former and serving governors, former and serving members of House of representatives and other stakeholders. That of Imo State was endorsed by senator Osita Izunaso.
According to Prince Okaforanyanwu, it is this arrangement that saw him as the state interim chairman and governor Rochas Okorocha as leader.
On the insinuations that Owelle Rochas joined the APC as an individual not on a party platform, Prince Okaforanyanwu said: “How can that be?, adding that a governor who joined the mega party with 22 states chairmen must be a force to be reckoned with.
On the membership drive to sensitize the party in Imo State, the party boss said the state interim executive committee is waiting for a directive from the national leadership. On the just unconcluded gubernational election in Anambra State, he said APC Imo State Chapter stands on the decision of its national executive for outright cancellation.
