Amidst pomp and pageantry, the family of Achigbu in Amorji Ugwu na Agbor in Nkwerre, Imo State gathered to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of their parents, Chief Nwaneri and Lady Abigail Achigbu (KSC) recently.
In his sermon at a service to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee at St. Paul’s (Ang) Church, Nkwerre, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Ecclesiastical Province of Owerri, Most Rev. Bennett C.I. Okoro PhD, JP, described the couple as distinguished educationists of many years.
He said that Christian marriages are purely based on divine biblical teachings and deliberate observation of such teachings, adding that no two marriages are identical.
The Archdeacon of Nkwerre Archdeaconry in Orlu Anglican Diocese, Ven. Uchenna T. Ahams (JP) and his wife, Ezinne Chika Ahams (JP), in their remarks, praised the Achigbu family for organising the event.
Also in their goodwill messages, the Vicar of Aladinma Parish, Ven. Paul Nwozuzu and the Archdeacon of New Owerri Archdeaconry, Ven(Engr) Obioma Okere, both of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri, described the event as a rare occurrence of great achievers.
Others who felicitated with the family included the Director-General of Imo State Orientation Agency, Chief Prince Ford Ozumba, the traditional ruler of Onicha-Uboma, Eze (Barr) Abel Osuji, the PDP Chairman in Ebonyi State, Hon. Prince Ugorji Amaoti, Sir George Egah, the General Manager of Imo Power and Water Company Ltd, Dr. Kachi Nwoga, Prof. Agwu Amadi, Sir Dan Owuoha, Dr. Bennette Amaefula, among others.
In his remarks, the first son of the couple, Barr. Hogan Achigbu (KSC) described their parents as God-fearing, focused and bold.
He said that they brought up their children to be distinguished, maintaining that the couple touched several lives and sacrificed much for the good of others.
The second son of the couple, Arc (Sir) Chinyere Achigbu, expressed gratitude to God who granted their parents more years of celebration.
The Achigbu family, at the occasion promised to build an ultra-modern parsonage for St. Paul’s Anglican Church Nkwerre in honour of their parents.
The Bishop Emeritus of the Anglican Diocese of Ideato Rt. Rev. Godson Echefu and his wife, Mrs Evelyn Echefu were present at the ceremony as well as the Rev. Tim Ashama, and the member representing Nkwerre State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Prince (Barr.) Obinna Okwarra, KSC.
