Homicide detectives of the Imo State Police Command have spread their dragnet in search of killers of a Community Leader and transporter, Ezinna Gabriel Nwaiwu.
Nwaiwu was reportedly shot dead in his country home at Ezegbu, Ebom Obi-Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on 2013 Christmas Eve.
A combined team of detectives drafted from the State’s Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Owerri and the Mbieri Police Division Orie-Mbieri, who were quickly alerted visited the scene of crime and collected tit-bits to help them in their investigation.
The corpse of the victim has been deposited at the Mbieri General Hospital, Orie Mbieri, for autopsy while the manhunt for the assailants has been intensified.
The gunmen, reportedly, struck at 9pm when the deceased was in company of one of his younger sisters in their premises that fateful day.
Christian Voice learnt that the deceased, who was based in Enugu State, had returned to his hometown not long ago.
It was also gathered that he was the chairman of the Harvest Committee of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ebom-Mbieri as well as the financial secretary of the award-winning cultural dance troupe of Ebom people, the Nkwa Love Union.
His tragic death, sources said, caused the indefinite postponement of the group’s album launch last December and the low-keyed wedding ceremony of his daughter.
Our crime reporter who visited the community said the area wore mourning look as the Aladinma Women of Ebom dressed in black attires marched through the streets, expressing their sadness at the brutal killing and prayed God to expose the assasins.
The Vice-President of Ebom Nkwa Love Cultural Union, Ochiagha Ebom Anthony Iheanacho Duruji, and the National Secretary-General, Dr. Oliver Nwanebu, confirmed that the deceased was their Union’s financial secretary and member Peace Committee of Ebom.

Most people interviewed in the town condemned the brutal killing of Ezinwa Nwaiwu.
At the ITC Headquarters in Owerri an authoritative source confirmed that the deceased was a franchise staff of the company with fleet Number 632 until his tragic death.
Contacted, the Head of the Kindred, Ezegbu village Ebom-Mbieri, Chief (Sir) C.O. Osuchukwu confirmed the incident when our crime reporter visited Ebom. He told our reporter that the deceased was very humble and peaceful, adding that he had no problem with anybody.
“We condemn whoever had carried out the murder”, the kindred head stated.
