The Imo State Police Command under the new Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Ali, has announced several successes in its fight against crime.

Briefing newsmen recently in Owerri, capital of the state, CP Ali said that on   proactive bases, the anti-kidnapping unit of the command successfully foiled an attempt to kidnap Dr. Christian Anyanwu in a church at Enyiogugu, Aboh-Mbaise local government area.

According to him, the unit got reliable information that the doctor’s brother-in-law, now at large, and others had planned to kidnap the doctor and swung into action, arresting some members of the gang.

Items recovered from the gang included an assault rifle loaded with ammunition, a double-barrel gun, ATM Cards, handsets, wraps of Indian help and a Toyota Sienna Car.

Also paraded were suspected attackers of the manager of Galaxy Guest House, Eziama Obiato, Mbaitoli local government area who allegedly snatched N90,000 from their victim.

The CP disclosed that five members out of seven who belong to a kidnap gang were arrested during the period under review while many weapons unlawfully in the suspects’ possession were recovered from various locations in the state.

He assured the people of Imo State that his men are determined to deal ruthlessly with criminals in the state.

He solicited for cooperation from all as, according to him; security work is a collective one.
