Students call for repair of Okigwe-Uturu road By Blessing Dede

An appeal has gone to the Federal Government to rehabilitate the Okigwe-Uturu road.

The call was made by a group of students from the Abia State University Uturu who shuttle between the University town and Okigwe on daily basis.

The students said the present state of the road gives them a lot of concern as it has caused serious accidents in the past one year.

They commended both the Imo and Abia State governments for doing some remedial work on the road but insisted that the road needs the federal might to get to the right standard.

The students, who wouldn’t want their names in print, stressed the need for the accelerated development of Uturu town so that investors, especially property developers would provide more accommodation for the teaming students of the institution.  For them, “Uturu needs good roads, constant electricity supply and clean water.

They called on the relevant authorities to deploy more resources in the town to bring it to the level that it can attract more investors and settlers.

The students also commended the University authorities for taking steps to ameliorate the sufferings of the students in the area of transportation and provision of enabling facilities for serious academic work.
