The new executive of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been charged to make the party stronger, more vibrant and active, especially at the ward level.
The Imo State Governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha who gave the charge at Ahiajoku Convention Centre during the APC state congress made it clear that it is the electorates at the ward level that determine the success of any political party in elections.
Governor Okorocha who said that APC believes in internal democracy also urged the new executive to protect democracy and ensure that it works in Imo State, adding that the members should protect and promote the interest of the party to enable the party achieve its desired goals. He said that his government would not interfere with the parties’ activities.
The governor who expressed satisfaction at the composition of the APC executive disclosed that the slogan of the party is “No rigging”. He assured them of victory come 2015.
In his remarks, the National Organising Secretary of APC, Senator Osita Izunaso, who inaugurated the new executive said that the congress was free and fair. He thanked the leadership of the party in Imo State and urged the new executive to discharge their duties creditably.
Also speaking, the chairman of the state congress committee, Chief Paul Chukwuma, said that the congress was conducted strictly on the modalities stipulated by the party.
He commended Governor Okorocha for the developmental projects in the state and enjoined the new exco to work together for more development and progress in the state.
Adding her voice also, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mrs Celina Okoh, commended APC in the state for conducting a free and fair congress and enjoined all to join hands and run the country well after party politics.
In his acceptance speech, the state chairman of APC, Dr. Hillary Eke, thanked the party members for the confidence reposed on him and the members of the executive and assured them that the team will take the party to greater heights. He pledged loyalty to the party’s constitution and manifesto.
The elected executive members of the state APC included, Dr. Hillary Eke, (state chairman) Prince Ugochukwu Nzekwe (State Deputy Chairman), Engr. Nwabueze Oguchienti (Publicity Secretary), Barr. Emma Ihedinero (Secretary), Dr. Clement Anozie (State Organsing Secretary), Mr. Theresa Asumugha (Woman Leader), Bartholomew Akabueze (Youth Leader).
