Nigerians urged to embrace FG’s agric scheme

Nigerians have been advised to embrace the Federal Government (FG) Growth Enhancement Scheme (GES) irrespective of their career to boost food security and make food surplus on the tables of all and sundry.

The GES Input Supplier Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Imo State Mr. Obioma Ejike, gave the advise while distributing FG subsidized fertilizers and maize grain to registered farmers in the area.

He said the registration is on and free but would end soon, calling on the public to avail the opportunity and queue into the programme for numerous benefits derivable. Mr. Ejike said each farmer gets two bags of 50kg fertilizer (20-10-10 or Uria) at N3,500 each and a bag of 10kg maize improved grain seedlings at N200 only.

The Input Supplier explained that 20-10-10 is all-purpose fertilizer while Uria is for plants and encouraged owners of palm plantation to get the commodity and apply it in line with the directives for optimal yield.

He disclosed plans to commence sale of improved palm seedlings (Tenera) soon, stating that the new seedlings can be planted side by side with the old palms which could be uprooted after one and half years when the young palms have begun to fruit.

On public awareness, he said his office has embarked on grassroot public enlightenment to communities, traditional institutions, churches and market places and expressed joy on the turnout of farmers unlike the previous year.
