Enugu Church marks Fathers Day in style From Emma Uwanekezi, Enugu

The Emmanuel Anglican Church, Achara Layout, Enugu has celebrated this year’s Fathers’ Day in a grand style, with the Vicar, Ven. Ginikanwa Ezeabii reminding fathers of their role in the family.

In a sermon entitled “who is a Christian Father”, Ven. Ezeabii enunciated the qualities of a Christian father which, he said, included laying a foundation for the family.

A Christian father, he said, must be of good character to be able to impart Christian life on his children, as leading by example is better than by precepts.

He condemned fathers who belong to secret societies and live a life of luxury outside their homes while their families languish in penury, saying that children watch such actions and may copy them later in life.

Ven. Ezeabii also advised wives to assist their husbands in the upbringing of the children and praised fathers who have been living up to expectation.

The Men’s Christian Fellowship (MCF) of the church donated 250 pieces of iron rods to the church at the occasion.

Present at the occasion were the wife of the vicar, Mrs Ijeoma Ezeabii, Mr. Innocent Okafor, chairman of the MCF, Sir and Lady Steve Anosike and Dr. David Nwafor, the pastor’s warden.

It featured a drama presentation that depicted relationship between father, mother and children in the home.
