Bishop plans new name for Lasbrey Girls’ School By Emma Onumah

Plans are now at advanced stage to change the name of the present Bishop Lasbrey Girls Secondary School, Irete, to Bishop Lasbrey Christ’s Education Centre for Girls, Irete.

This disclosure was made by the Anglican Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Cyril C. Okorocha Ph.D at a recent Diocesan Service held at the Cathedral Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (CATOL) Owerri.

Bishop Okorocha, who is also the Proprietor of the school, being one of the mission schools which were returned recently by the Imo State Government to their owners, stated that there is need to start now to get it right in the history of education in Nigeria which, he noted had suffered madness since after the civil war.

He announced that good structures were being put up in the school, to provide not just good accommodation but conducive learning environment for the students, as was the case in those days when, according to him, schools existed.

Like the Professor Enoch Anyanwu Christ’s Education (PEACE) Centre, Owerri one of the schools owned and run by the Anglican Diocese of Owerri, the Bishop assured that the fees charged in the school are not much because, as he added, public-spirited people are giving to sustain the standard of the school and that of PEACE Centre, along Port-Harcourt Road, Owerri.

The Prelate commended a couple from Irete, Sir and Lady Goddy Osuji who, he said, are now building a computer centre in the school, and used the opportunity to challenge other people who are burning with passion to build schools that would let Jesus into the various homes, to please come forward and help.

Commending the Principal of the School, Mrs. Jemimah Anyiam, for her tremendous work in the school, the Bishop announced that the Management of the School will henceforth be headed by Dr (Dame) Esther Okpara, and assisted by Dr. (Lady) Lilian Nkwoada
