Imo govt demolishes brothels in Owerri

Convinced that illegal structures and brothels are breeding ground for criminals, Imo State government agencies have embarked on their demolition.

To this end, such structures on Onitsha Road, Owerri, the Imo State capital, received the attention of demolition squals forcing illegal motor parks on the busy road to relocate to the official Arugo Park.

Spreaking to journalists in his office shortly after the exercise, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Okechukwu Azu, said the exercise was in conformity with the “Operation know your neighbours” recently launched by the governor to check crime in the state.

He maintained that illegal structures and brothels served as hide-outs for criminals and also encouraged immoral acts, he advised Imo people to desist from erecting batchers and shanties which he said equally defaced the state as he counseled to get clearance from Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) before embarking on projects.
