Gov stresses need for food security By Chinasa Ogbonna

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has declared that “a nation that cannot fed itself is a failed nation”.
The governor made the declaration recently while receiving a delegation of South African agricultural experts led by South African High Commissioner, Louis Mnguini during which he attributed unemployment and poverty in Nigeria to the neglect of agriculture.
He then expressed the zeal of his government to partner with the South African agricultural experts to transform agriculture in order to create employment opportunities and reduce poverty in the state.
In this direction, Governor Okorocha said his government was poised to revive Avutu Poultry Farm including other agricultural programmes to ensure food security and reduce poverty.
Observing that South Africa has excelled in Agriculture, he expressed gratitude to the delegation for their interest in partnering with the state in this direction as he requested them to carry along the youths and peasant farmers in their programmes.
Earlier in his address, the High Commissioner explained they were keen to partner with the state in agricultural revolution pointing out thatthe team would assist in rain farming, food-processing, packaging, storage and provision of equipment in the process of which youths would be gainfully employed and farmers trained.
