The police stop-and-search exercise paid off recently when the Scorpion Squad of the Imo Command recovered an alleged stolen eight-month-old baby at Isiala Mbano.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo, DSP Andrew Enwerem, said that the baby girl, stolen from her mother a few days before, was found in the possession of the suspects, a man and a woman, (names withheld).
According to him, the Scorpion Squad apprehended them on their way to Isiala Mbano, Imo State. The mother of the baby was immediately contacted.
The PPRO said that the baby was reportedly stolen at Umuduru in Onuimo Local Government Area of the state.
The police have been waging a war against illegal adoption of children as well as baby factories which hitherto became rampant in parts of Imo State.
In another development, the police demolished an uncompleted building, also in Isiala Mbano, suspected to be a hideout for criminals.
DSP Enwerem said that hoodlums who were found in the building took to their heels on sighting the police.He said that the policemen seized three fire arms and 10 live cartridges from the building before its destruction.
Enwerem added that the police were doing everything possible to stamp out crime in the state, including taking proactive measures as well as supervisory.
