A renowned youth leader and frontline politician in Mbaitoli LGA; Comrade Uzoma Nelson Iherue, has joined United Progressive Party (UPP) ahead of his 2015 Imo State House of Assembly ambition.
In an interactive session with the leadership of the party recently in Owerri, Comrade Iherue said that he decamped from All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to UPP in the interest of the people of his constituency who are his core supporters.
he said that he bought into the ideology of the party after carefully studying UPP over the years and discovering that the party reflects the identity of a true and patriotic Igbo man and that the people at the helm of affairs of the party both at the national and state levels are people of worthy characters and good Nigerians.
He described his joining the race for Imo House of Assembly as the member representing Mbaitoli State Constituency as divine, a vision of over a decade ago even as young student politician.
According to him, he hopes to emancipate and especially the youths from perpetual marginalization and deceit.
The youths are vulnerable and voiceless and have no affirmation due to ignorance, dependence and poverty which has affected their psychology, he said, adding that some youths have lost their lives after being lured with peanuts into some unwholesome practices by some wicked politicians.
He emphasized that his agenda for the youths, women and children is direct and determined for economic empowerment, leadership development, skill, acquisition, agricultural training and development, social welfare/service insurance, small and medium scale enterprises development among others.
His constituents after electing him in 2015, he said, will surely witness a brand new style of representation, that which will be entirely people-oriented.
Responding, the chairman of UPP in Imo State, Dr. C.J. Egbuchulam who was the majority leader at the Imo State House of Assembly during the last dispensation, thanked him for believing in the party and saluted his courage for taking the bull by the horn even as a youth to save Mbaitoli people from the blind representation of the time.
He said that it was high time the young vibrant people started entering politics so as to get rid of mediocrity and inefficiency in the house as a result of age.
He also assured Comrade Iherue of a level playing ground for all candidates during their delegates elections emphasizing that UPP as a party has integrity and rooted in Internal Democracy which conforms with the party slogan ‘Love and Unity.
