Church of Nigeria ends General Synod Two new Bishops consecrated From Emma Uwanekezi, Enugu

The General Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) ended recently at the Cathedral of Good Shepherd, Enugu, one of the highlights being the consecration of two new bishops.

In his homily at the consecration of the bishops, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, urged them to emulate the qualities of late Bishop Ajayi Crowther who he said spread the gospel in the West, East, North and the Niger- Delta.

He submitted that Nigerians need the word of God more at this time the country is passing through trying times and pleaded with Nigerian politicians to play the game according to the rules.

Archbishop Okoh presented the two new bishops each with a copy of the Bible. The two are Ven. Prince Asukwo Antai, Bishop of Uyo and Ven. Williams O. Aladekugbe, the Bishop of Oyo.

Over 1000 delegates attended the synod among them 160 bishops, chancellors and registrars. The former vice president of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, and his wife were also at the synod.
