Bishop Oti announces 12-Months’ training for priests

The Anglican Diocesean-on-the-Lake, recently organized an in-house training programme for the priests at which the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Chijioke Oti, PhD, enunciated the spiritual level expected of priests before commencing church service.

In his lecture on, “Preparing for church services” the bishop declared that priests should prepare prayerfully and ask God to be used as an instrument of realization before embarking on Sunday services and other church activities.

He noted that those “who jump out from bed and mount the pulpit” hardly deliver because they did not prepare through prayers.

The Prelate advised that a clergy man could start preparing for an enthralling Sunday sermon on Tuesday to ensure that materials for the service must have been fully studied.

On dressing, Bishop Oti urged his priests to distinguished between neatness and expensive wears as one’s physical appearance with correct vestments speaks volumes.

He then announced that the training programme would be monthly for those ordained from 2005 downwards.

Speaking, the Director, Mission Initiatives in the Diocese, Ven. Japhet Anumudu, counseled the participants to avoid lateness and distractions before officiating especially in the vestry.

He further advised that officiating priests at Holy Communion services should check if the necessary items are in place to avoid lull during the service as he condemned the attitude of priests walking in and out of the altar during church service.
