‘Policemen’ storm Christ Church Owerri …rough-handle NSCDC man By Ifeoma Ofurum

Pandemonium broke out at the premises of the Christ Church Nursery and Primary School wing of the Anglican Church, Owerri, when a woman tried to force her way into the school compound to collect her kids.

As the man at the gate (simply called Elemite) refused to allow the woman access to the school compound when lessons were still in session, he was said to be rough-handed by the woman who tore his uniform.

The situation caused a furore which made the woman phone her husband policeman who rushed down, according to eye-witnesses, and descended on the guard, a corporal in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Owerri. Other policemen that came after a phone call by the woman’s husband followed suit, it was learnt.

The intervention of Church Workers and the Civil Defence officials who rushed to the school premises saved the guard from the ugly consequences.

As a result of the scene created, the school session was disrupted, with staff and students scampering to get away from police tear gas.

Meanwhile, the matter has been reported to the police who are now carrying out investigations.
