Prof Onwuliri plants Goodluck’s palm seedling in Imo State

The huge success recorded in the Agricultural sector of President Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda would not only be continuous but will also be improved upon.

Prof. Viola Adaku Onwuliri, Hon. Minister of State 1 Foreign Affairs disclosed this in Owerri, the Imo State capital early in the week while performing the Ikuola Nkwu Goodluck, which she described as Nkwu Ihuoma at Shell Camp, Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri during the free distribution of improved varieties of palm seedlings, cassava and potatoes to farmers in Imo State by President Goodluck Jonathan.

She applauded the success recorded so far in the Agricultural Transformation Agenda and restated the sincere determination of the Federal Government to encourage farmers and other individuals who take up farming, so as to ensure the availability of food in the country.

Prof. Onwuliri who said that the Ikuola Nkwu Goodluck be replicated in every family in Imo State, thanked Imo farmers for identifying with the Agricultural Transformation Agenda of the Federal government.

Speaking also, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, who was represented by Dr. Uche Nwafor, South-East Zone Regional Director of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, enumerated the achievements recorded in the past 3 years in the area of agriculture and promised that more programmes would be rolled out to support farmers to improve their output.

He said that the free distribution of improved latest varieties of seedlings by President Jonathan was among the government’s numerous efforts to encourage farmers in the country.

In his remarks, the Imo State Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Clement Iwunze told the gathering that Imo youths were part of poultry training across the country, and were also given empowerment on completion. He said that a giant 100MT silo is nearing completion in Okigwe adding that when completed, the silo would employ hundreds of Imolites.

There were goodwill messages from South-East Zonal Regional Agro-dealers Association and a legal luminary, Barr. Eze Nwauwa.

Highpoint of the event was the free distribution of the improved latest varieties of seedlings to Imo farmers who were also drilled on the correct planting of the seed.

The farmers later presented an award to President Goodluck Jonathan for his feat in Agricultural Transformation. Imo Farmers also adopted him as their Sole Candidate for 2015.

President also at the occasion were Imo PDP Chairman, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, Chief Mike Uzodinma, Ahiazu PDP Chairman among other dignitaries.
