The All Progressive Congress (APC) in the South East has hailed the promise made to Ndigbo by their presidential candidate Gen. Muhamadu Buhari to revamp the abundance coal deposit in Enugu. Buhari made the promise in Enugu during the launching of his presidential Campaign at the weekend, promising to revamp the abandoned coal deposit for the generation of electricity in the south east.
The Southeast spokesman of the APC, Osita Okechukwu in a statement said that General Buhari has raised the hope of the people of the Southeast by the promise. He recalled that in the early 70’s the abundant deposit of coal in Enugu were used to run the Oji River Power Station and this generated electricity for the east and beyond. He recalled that the electricity from Oji Power Station served industries such as the Premier Cashew Industry Oghe, flourmill at Enugu, Aluminum Industry at Ohebe Dim and the Avop Vegetable Oil plant at Nachi.
He regretted that, today coal has been abandoned while the Oji power plant has gone underground, because these industries have gone under and the Oji power plant abandoned, unemployment has overtaken the Southeast. We have confidence in Buhari because he is a man who walks his talk and never reneges on what he says he will do. He keeps his promises. With this promise, our industries will be resuscitated and employment once more guaranteed.
The APC spokesman advised Ndigbo to be reassured of Buhari’s promise because he is a man of integrity. He finally advised Ndigbo to listen to the advice of our elderly statesman in the person of the former vice president of Nigeria Dr. Alex Ekuneme not to put all their eggs in one basket especially as the PDP has lost the vision of its founding fathers. He also praised Buhari for his promise to give soft loans to southeast farmers.
