One of the opposition parties in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the campaign methods of incumbent Gov. Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressives Congress (AC) , “illegal and unorthodox”.
Speaking the newsmen in Owerri, capital of the State, the PFP state Chairman, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie accused the governor of using me of the Imo Community Watch, Imo Civil Guard and other agencies f the state as thugs.
According to him, these group of people , the governor has been training at the premises of Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies (ICABS) on Egbu Road, former our Imo Newspaper premises have been destroying billboards belonging to the PDP Presidential candidate and the incumbent president of the country, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and other PDP candidates in Imo State.
Citing the destruction of the boards at Azaraegbelu and other places, he said that such acts run contrary to the Electoral Act which allows free campaign.
He condemned late messages being passed to the electorate through the Imo State owned radio station; the IBC Orient FM, which, he said, does not accept announcements from other political parties than APC, contrary to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) regulations.
Barr. Anyaehie called on the NBC to look into the issue, while also frowning at the inflation of voters’ strength in Ogboko, Umuchima, Obiohia Ogboko and Umueogwu wards all in Ideato South LGA, home of the governor.
According to him, six polling stations in the area now have over 40,000 population while, on record, they are not more than 5,000.
He, therefore, urged INEC and the security agencies to intervene and stop the use of illegal voters’ lists in the election.
