Aba agog as Ihedioha’s campaign train storms city

The campaign train of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, added another feather in his bid to capture Douglas House as the next governor come May 29, as the team stormed Aba in Abia state, which is the commercial nerve centre of the South east, to campaign for their votes.

The choice of Aba was very apt as most of the viable and successful businesses in the city are being operated by indigenes of Imo State, secondly because of the cordial relationship that had existed over the years, even before the creation of Abia state from the former Imo state.

The campaign, which brought together all the different interest groups, comprising town unions, market unions, traders, students, civil servants and women, brought life and excitement in the thickly populated city.

In his usual humble and traditional manner of paying homage and respect to traditional rulers and leaders of the land, Ihedioha who is also the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and leader of the team paid royal homage to the traditional rulers of Aba North and Aba South local governments at the palace of Eze Loveday Wogu of Umola Egbelu in Aba North. He also paid courtesy calls to some senior citizens and business leaders of Imo state origin resident in Aba. They included Sir Onyeso Wachukwu, Chief Emeka Ekwebelem, Nze Clem Maduako, and Senator Bright Nwanne.

Addressing the crowd at the Pavilion, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Ihedioha, accompanied by his Abia State counterpart, Dr. Okezuo Ikpeazu, and all the candidates for senatorial, House of Representatives and that of House of Assembly, promised to reposition the state for better.

“I want to thank in a special way, our brothers and sisters in Aba, Abia State who have come out in their numbers to receive us despite their busy schedules; particularly the Abia State POP Governorship Candidate Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu. I want to say a big thank you to the Imo Business Community in Aba, the Imo State Students in Abia State Polytechnic and the entire Imo Project Support Groups in Aba.

“The show of love and solidarity indeed has motivated us the more on our resolve to reclaim Imo State and position our destiny on the part of glory and economic recovery,

“When become governor of Imo State, will provide and enabling environment which includes tax rebate and soft loans to encourage your business to thrive. Imo State will be a destination for business and economic activities because i have the capacity to attract investors to complement your efforts.

“I will ensure the sincere implementation of free and qualitative education, Activate the Local Government System and promote aggressive agriculture as a viable and productive alternative to revenue and human empowerment including massive youth employment and empowerment”, he said.

Chief Ihedioha decried the massive looting of the state treasury by Governor Rochas Okorocha, saying, The Governor has looted the Local Government funds, Ecological funds and the funds from federation account, i have challenged him on this issues and he has continued to run”.

He assured that the relationship between Imo and her neighbouring South east states would receive a big boost as they intend to partner on issues to promote the zone generally.

On his entourage were members of the POP State Working Committee led by the Chairman, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie, POP National Woman Leader, Dr. Kema Chikwe, former Deputy Governors, former Governorship aspirants, National Assembly Candidates, party leaders, 7 and a host of others.
